CAPT. KARL BRANCH
Divisional Manager, Innovation & Corporate Services, Barbados Port Inc.
Capt. Karl Branch is a certified Artificial Intelligence Risk Management Architect under the US National Institute of Standards and Technology. He holds the Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP) cybersecurity designation and the Certified Port Executive designation.
He retired as head of the Military Intelligence Unit and was awarded the Barbados Defence Board Commendation for performance in Intelligence.
Karl represents the Chairmanship of the Technical Advisory Group to the Inter-American Executive Committee on Ports, and he is also the Chairman of the Stakeholder Steering Committee for the development of the innovative Barbados Port Community System.
Karl has presented internationally, including at the World Smart Developing Ports Conference, Rotterdam, on the topic of artificial intelligence, and he has been instrumental in the deployment of artificial intelligence in surveillance monitoring systems in use at the Port of Bridgetown. This system is the most advanced surveillance system deployed in Barbados at present.

MR. ROMMEL EDWARDS
Manager, Digital Innovation and Development, Barbados Port Inc.
Mr. Rommel Edwards is the Manager of the Digital Innovation and Development Department at Barbados Port Inc. (BPI). With over 25 years at BPI, he has led the development of multiple software solutions, streamlining port operations and trade facilitation.
His key achievements include integrating Customs ASYCUDA World with BPI’s systems, implementing BPI’s first cloud-based terminal operating system, and launching BPI’s first online payment platform.
Under his leadership, BPI has earned multiple awards for innovation and technology. His department manages critical digital initiatives, including Barbados’ Port Community System and the Barbados Maritime Single Window.
Mr. Edwards is a Certified Port Executive, Certified NIST Cybersecurity Lead Implementer and Certified NIST AI Risk Management Framework Architect. He chairs the Barbados Port Community System’s Technical and Cybersecurity committees and represents BPI on the Steering Committee for the Barbados Electronic Single Window for Trade. His expertise continues to drive digital transformation in Barbados’ maritime sector.

Barbados Port Inc. advises customers that full functionality and normal business hours have been restored to the Cargo Gate and Shed 2 at the Port of Bridgetown.
The Cargo Gate opens at 7 am through to 3 p.m.
Operational hours for the collection of barrels and personal cargo from Shed 2 are 7 am to 3 p.m.

Barbados Port Inc. advises that our Cube Blue office is closed to business today, Monday July 15 2024.
The closure is a necessary safety precaution taken as a result of a lingering chemical scent following an industrial cleaning of the building over the weekend.
Given the unavailability of our cashiers, customers are encouraged to pay online via our corporate website www.barbadosport.com, and not visit the Cube Blue location.

Further to the closure of the Cargo Gate at the Port of Bridgetown, Barbados Port Inc. advises that the Customs Cashiers have been relocated to Shed 2.
Persons seeking to pay Customs Duties at Shed 2 should enter via the Main Gate.

Please note Cashiers will be available during the adjusted opening hours of the Shed i.e from 7 a.m. to 12 noon.

Further to the closure of the Cargo Gate at the Port of Bridgetown, Barbados Port Inc. will be limiting the operating hours of Shed 2 in an effort to reduce congestion within the Port facility.
Shed 2 will be open for the delivery of cargo from 7 a.m. to 12 noon until further notice.
Please be guided accordingly.
Barbados Port Inc. advises that the Cargo Gate at the Port of Bridgetown is closed to business until further notice.
As a result, effective 7:00 a.m. Tuesday, June 25, 2024, the following activities will be permitted via the North Gate:
- Processing of all commercial and personal cargo.
- Entry and exit of all cargo and container trucks
- Exit of all vehicles carrying personal cargo
Port Security and Customs personnel will be relocated to the North Gate to facilitate cargo processing.
All customers seeking to conduct business at Shed 2 i.e the collection of barrels and personal cargo, should enter via the Main Gate.
Approved applications for entry via the Cargo Gate will be accepted for entry via the Main Gate.
The Cargo Gate closure is a necessary safety precaution which is being taken in light of ongoing construction at the old Sugar Bond site and the weather conditions predicting high winds over the next few days.
While some delays are expected due to increased traffic flows via the North Gate, we assure you that our teams will work to mitigate extended wait times. All visitors to the Port are asked to comply with the safety guidelines and directives issued by security and law enforcement Personnel.
