Barbados hosts global shipping and logistics interests at the Caribbean Shipping Association's 47th Annual General Meeting, Conference & Exhibition

Barbados will be the 2017 venue of the Caribbean region's premier shipping conference, when that nation’s maritime community welcomes delegates attending the Caribbean Shipping Associations’ (CSA) 47th Annual General Meeting, Conference and Exhibition, from October 9 – 11.

Barbados Port Inc. and the Shipping Association of Barbados will host the proceedings, which are to be held at the Hilton Barbados Hotel, Bridgetown.

Barbados Port Inc. supporting restoration of historic East Point Lighthouse

Barbados Port Inc. (BPI) has proudly announced its involvement in the restoration of the historic East Point Lighthouse in St. Philip. The restoration project, to be performed by Hinds Transport Services Ltd. and overseen by the BPI, commenced last month marked by an official ceremony and the initial removal of tree branches which have penetrated the building over time.

The Barbados Port Inc. (BPI) yesterday welcomed French cruise ship Le Soléal to the Bridgetown Port for the first time at an official inaugural ceremony. The seven-deck ship, renowned for its expedition-style cruises, arrived in Barbados from Venezuela and has now set sail for Martinique; its last stop on its 17-day cruise.

Cruise Passengers Seek an ‘Experience’

Over the years, the summer months heralded vacation travel for hundreds of Barbadians, and cruising is quickly becoming the preferred choice for many. Since the 1980s, Barbadians have watched as majestic, imposing cruise ships sailed in and out of the Bridgetown Port, bringing travellers from diverse parts of the globe. Something about these mega-ships captures the imagination. Their size has increased, and most of them boast a capacity of over 2,500 passengers, with the newer ships carrying over 3,500 passengers, plus crew.

 

Marine Cadets Shine at the Caribbean Maritime Institute

The six Barbadian nautical cadets who are enrolled at the Caribbean Maritime Institute in Jamaica are making their mark as they pursue studies in the areas of Seamanship, Navigational Watch and Marine Engineering Services. The cadets - Asha Beckles, Jeremy Bovell, Kayode Branch, Shakere Hall, Jeremy O’Dowd and Victor Cooke, are on training scholarships from Barbados Port Inc as part of the company’s succession programme to position adequately trained, young mariners to succeed retiring pilots, tug masters and marine engineers.
