Barbados will be the 2017 venue of the Caribbean region's premier shipping conference, when that nation’s maritime community welcomes delegates attending the Caribbean Shipping Associations’ (CSA) 47th Annual General Meeting, Conference and Exhibition, from October 9 – 11.
Barbados Port Inc. and the Shipping Association of Barbados will host the proceedings, which are to be held at the Hilton Barbados Hotel, Bridgetown.
As is customary at its AGM, the CSA will welcome some of the largest and most influential supply chain interests, including shipping lines, ship's agents, customs and maritime authorities, port and terminal operators across the hemisphere.
A highlight of the CSA's 47th AGM will be its Conference and Exhibition, both designed to optimize networking opportunities for delegates. The participants, comprising CSA members, industry suppliers and service providers, along with observers, are expected from more than 20 countries from across the Caribbean as well as North, Central and South America and Europe.
CSA President David Jean Marie will welcome delegates to the three-day event.
"As President of the Caribbean Shipping Association and a proud Barbadian, I am pleased to welcome shipping interests from the region and across the globe to our shores for this premier networking event," said Jean Marie of the upcoming conference.
"Through this conference, the CSA continues to play a central role in harmonising the Caribbean shipping industry into an integrated community. We will again provide information for our members on all the current developments in our industry from a global and regional perspective - information that should stimulate our discussions toward the creation of new business opportunities for ourselves, our country and our region," he added.A robust and engaging agenda, including a spouses programme and nightly cultural activities are the hallmark of any CSA conference and the Barbados organisers have promised that this year will be the best yet. Time has been set aside throughout the three-day event for networking activities, allowing participants to initiate contact with potential partners.
The CSA will tend to its internal business on the morning of Day One of the event, following the opening ceremony, which involves government officials. The Conference will then move on addressing issues related to the development of the regional maritime sector.
On Days Two and Three, the conference will return to presentations by international and regional maritime sector leaders that will allow delegates a chance to hear the most up to date information on various industry trends and concerns including Port & Cyber security, port privatisation, technology the growing presence and influence of mega-carriers and liner consolidations, and the resultant fierce competition among ports.
The 47th Annual General Meeting, Conference and Exhibition will end with the CSA's annual Gala Banquet and Awards. This stellar event will be highlighted by the announcement of the winners of the annual Caribbean Port Awards including Port of the Year.
